"..She doesn’t care about the rumors.."-някои неща за Мария от пресата

5 years ago, when her parents, Verica Šerifović and Rajko Šerifović divorced, Marija and her mother left Kragujevac and moved to Beograd. Since then Marija lives alone in her own apartment. Her mother respected her will to be independent:
» I have told her more than hundred times to be always available on the phone. She ¸ has 2 phone numbers and 2 cell phones and when she’s not available I don’t know what to do! I go crazy. But fortunately, she answers 15 min later. If she doesn’t answer in an hour, then I’m very nervous and worried.”

What things that mum does drive Marija crazy?
“At the beginning, when she moved away; I was bothering her with questions like: Where are you? Who are you with? What are you doing? Have you eaten anything?
After two years I have realized that she is a great fighter and that she fights for her career like a lion. I like that and I’d like to be like her; all I did for my career was sing and record the songs and keep my mouth shut. She is totally different.
But I’d like her to change some things in the future and that will probably happen. First of all, her way of dressing and not doing the make up. That’ll be totally different one day, just like I have imagined.”

When Marija moved to Belgrade she started her professional career – first festival awards, first album (Naj najbolja (2003))… In 2003 she participated in Budva festival with the song Gorka čokolada, and in 2004 she won her first award at the same festival with Bol do ludila. In 2005 she won at Radijski festival with the song U nedelju (on Sunday). She admitted that Sunday was not her favorite day but she started liking it. On Sundays she’s usually having lunch at her mother’s place or playing games on her “Sony” with her friends (LOL).
After her great success she recorded her second album – Bez ljubavi. Soon after that she bravely decided for the biggest challenge in her career – a concert in Sava Centar. But she didn’t fail; the hall was full and once again she proved her status – as the queen of the ballads, which she interprets perfectly.

She doesn’t care about the rumors

For a few years now she has a tattoo on her right hand where it’s written BIM. People have speculated that B is the initial letter of someone’s name, but Marija denied that and explained that in those letters there is hidden a very important sentence for her. She has more tattoos, one of them are dog paws on her back.

While some tabloids speculate about her sexual orientation; Marija says that she is dreaming of a big family, a husband, kids… and that she’ll raise her children by herself not her mum and dad. She has experienced how is to grow up in the absence of the parents, only with grandparents, because her mum and dad were very busy and she doesn’t want her children to experience that.

Marija’s look on stage is as her private life… She doesn’t think that sex appeal and glamour are important to succeed and be famous. That’s why she prefers sport style. Only once she appeared in a more elegant way – in the semifinal of Beovision (OMG )… and like she said she’ll never again appear like that. Since then she doesn’t wear skirts and doesn’t make compromises.

Verica Šerifović is very happy because people don’t relate Marija to her; they do not say – Oh, this is the daughter of Verica Šerifović.; like they say – This is Miki Jevremović’s daughter, this is Keba’s daughter, Merima Njegomir’s daughter… (other famous Serbian singers, whose daughters are also singers). Marija has her own way. People even often say –Oh, this is Marija’s mum. “And that’s OK,” says Verica.

She also says that she has prepared Marija for the bad side of their profession. She told her: “Your job is to sing and to sing it in the best way. Everything else is not important. Forget all the bad commentaries.”
“That’s why she doesn’t spend her time reading the tabloid headlines, no matter how negative they are,” says Verica.

Marija’s commentaries on rumors are always serene and mature. She has emphasized several times: “Everything I have done, I’ve done without someone covering me and lobbying for me, the audience knows that; they see it and feel it!”

Vienna - my personal fan story

.....The most important moment and the point-of-no-return was definetley Vienna... I saw Marija at the Eurovision and for the first moment I fell in love... I was so excited, when she won and I cried with her... then I found all her songs and I knew that was it. It's very strange,because that's not my usual music taste - I hear rock and metal,but there is a king of magic in her music... I begun to learn Serbian, for me it was not so difficult, but still it's another language.. I thought I never see her and than it happened... I won tickets for her concert in Vienna and that changed everything..... The trip was heavy - from Kassel, Germany to Vienna it's more than 7 hours.First I took train to Frankfurt, than a bus to Vienna and I was alone. I asked me the whole time what the hell I'm doing.. On 06.06.07, 6 o'clock at the morning I was in Vienna, the concert was on 21:00(actually it begun at midnight). That gap I should kill and it was the most strange thing in my life... the whole day I strolled through the city and heard Marija's songs on my player.. the feeling was very special-a mix from enthusiasm, fear, impatience,happyness and many many other...

....I asked me, why I'm doing that... it's against the common mind and not typical for me...and at midnight I knew why-MARIJA... she's a phenomenon,very very special appearance.. when she came on the stage and the whole hall exploded in screaming and euphoria... Marija has very adorable and sweet stage appearance, she plays with the audience and with all the stuff, which-accidentaly or not-is on the stage, makes funny face and body expressions and is so natural...and what a voice... so strong, impressive, you can feel it - the whole pain, bitterness, happyness or whatever Marija want to express... when she sang U nedelju, I had the feeling the guy is in front of her and she REALLY begs him not to leave... I should cry... I couldn't believe I see her live-more alive and wild than ever and that happens to me... Marija has a very magnetic aura, just unresistable and is very talented, she likes very mush that,what she makes and you can see it.. then she made a pause and that,what happened was like in a film,I can't realise it still today.. I succeed to have a photo with her and an autogramm... I repeated myself not to stop breathing,I never was so enthusiastic,excited and quietly as that moment.. Marija is always in super mood,nice, ready to make all the things you wish and so
sweet...live more than on photos or clips or whatever... in the last moment I gave her my letter to her-I tried to write it on Serbian(of cource surely with tousand mistakes)... afterwards I could only scream and can't remember a lot...she came angain on the stage and made another brilliat part(Mito bekrijo rockzzzzzzz :) )... I never forget that,it is so deep in my heart and mind..

About 5 o'clock on the next morning she went out... I sat there and she went past me.. I was ready to cry and wanted to say her not to go... a really sad moment...
...I took the bus to the center and I walked on the empty Vienna's
streets... the feeling from the last day was there again,but stronger and mixed with a bit quiety sadness..I never expected to have such an experience.. from Marija and her songs jet so many joy, energy, desire to life and to fight... she is very good example...when I hear her,I always imagine the big Serbian corn fields, Beograd, the mountines,it's very similar to my home country... I'm happy that it happened to me and I hope some day I will have another possibility to see her, because that's a unique experience....
